For less than the cost of a Big Mac, fries and a Coke, you can buy a loaf of fresh bread and some good cheese or roast beef, which you will enjoy much more.

"The rich flavors of these cookies make it an easy crowd-pleaser."

    INGREDIENTS

    1 cup butter, softened
    2/3 cup sugar
    1/2 teaspoon almond extract
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1/3 cup seedless raspberry jam
    GLAZE:
    1 cup confectioners’ sugar
    2 teaspoons water
    1/2 teaspoon almond extract

    DIRECTIONS

    • Soften butter and sugar. Whisk in the extract and add the flour gradually, forming a dough. Cover and chill for an hour. Shape the dough into inch-sized balls. Line the balls up onto non-greased baking sheets.
    • Create an indentation at the center using the end of the wooden spoon handle. Spoon in the jam at the center.
    • Place the baking sheets into the oven and bake for about 18 minutes at 350 degrees F. Transfer into wire racks to cool and ladle more jam as needed onto the cookies.
    • Mix the glaze ingredients together and drizzle over the cookies.
    • Makes 21 servings
