    Apple Yeast Bread

    If you’re serving this bread during any occasions, make sure to keep copies of the recipe at bay since most of your guests and family would be asking for it.

    INGREDIENTS

    * 2 tablespoons butter, melted
    * 1/2 cup sugar
    * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    * 1 large tart apple, peeled and thinly sliced
    * 1/4 cup raisins
    * 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
    * 3/4 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
    * 1/4 cup sugar
    * 1 teaspoon salt
    * 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
    * 1 egg, lightly beaten
    * 1/4 cup shortening

    DIRECTIONS

    • Place melted butter in a 9-inch square baking pan. Combine sugar and cinnamon then sprinkle it over the melted butter. Put the apple slices into the pan and top it with raisins.
    • Mix yeast, water, sugar, salt and 1 cup flour i a bowl. Beat well or for about 2 minutes. Add the egg, shortening and all the rest of the flour.
    • Place it into the oven to bake for a minute. Drop spoonfuls of dough over the apples. Cover and leave it to double for an hour in a warm setting.
    • Once doubled, place the pan into the oven and bake for 35 minutes. Invert the pan over a serving platter and serve.
    • Makes 9 servings.
